Took two of these home, Mrs. Bird and I had one each.
OH MY GOD!
Incredible, never known anything so good.
Mid slurp I asked the universe "why can't all oranges be like this?".
If you haven't tried one, do so immediately. The best!

Thou shalt not...
...FIYL effectively without regular blogging. This goes for me more than anyone!
I teach RPM spin classes - Monday 7:30pm, Thursday 6:30am, Friday 6:45am - these require a certain routine in order to perform all my duties in life; Corporate Trustee by day, husband/gentleman lover by night. I had this routine all worked out before, and then I went and poured a 90 day healthy eating and exercise program on top of it. Is this going to be too much?
And this is why the blog stopped for a few days, something had to give. I'm yet to figure out how to incorporate my FIYL strength training on Thursday and Friday, this week saw some half-hearted leg work and some rushed push ups, but this week is a fresh challenge and I'm looking forward to rising to it.
Monday was awesome. You what? That's right, Monday was awesome!
Food, check. Productive day at work, check. Spin class left attendees sweaty and gasping, check.
Stayed behind after class and whilst the gym was jammed and crazy, full of that false-promise and grand ambition that fills every gym in January, I cranked the tunes up in the spinning studio and proceeded to smash out an amazing Day 8 workout in perfectly isolated solitude. Brilliant!
First time I've started to feel that deep burn again, really connected with my core (no doubt the hour class on the bike helped get me to that point), enjoyed the physical challenge, but finished at just the right time so as not to hurt myself or hit total exhaustion.
Fuelled up at the nearby supermarket before braving the minus 20 Celcius conditions, to catch up with the Missus and a few friends who were just finishing watching the Bachelor (yuk). We drove home and I was asleep before my head touched the pillow.
Woke up feeling good today, food in order, also about to head down to see Reeyaz for a
Honeybell Orange
Fired up for Day 9 exercise at home tonight.
FIYL starting to become the norm, good times

It's really not that difficult
Workout done, it's 20 minutes at this stage, max! That said it's a much needed wake up call for my chest and shoulders, yes shoulders. Skipping again has quickly exposed the weakness on my top deck. I already knew about inactive glutes, especially left side, so squats and lunges to the rescue down there. So glad to have started this up again, and these short workouts remind me that no matter how busy we get at work or wherever, there's always 30 minutes for a skip, some leg work, a few push ups and sit ups. You just have to own it.
Sound the Alarm!
I remember this feeling, 6am, beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep, dismiss. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Oh no! I slept in and now have to make time to do my stupid squats and push-ups later today.
And that's the way it goes at first, grrr....
Was in bed around 10pm, couldn't really sleep properly, 2am and I was awake thinking about bonus numbers. Even more reason to establish this early morning ritual, so we're simply unable to stay awake past 10pm.
No panic, it will come.

Infrastructure
A few headaches at the outset. Technology today really does move fast! What's great about running a venture like this is it forces me to self-educate and experiment in this regard. There are many great tools available, you just need to make some time and breathe deeply. Love takes time, but also makes time. The day-job remains constant, but I made the time in the morning to work out and prepare food because I love the benefit I will gain from establishing this rhythm and eating well. I also love the support and enthusiasm of the group of FIYLers I've assembled - like minded individuals who want to take charge of their everyday, be pro-active and empowered.
Day 2 has helped isolate a number of structural gaps within this round of FIYLing, these are born through too short a lead-up period, but week 1 is part of this. The gaps are visible and most importantly they are fixable before week 2 gets underway.

New Beginnings
Fit Into Your Life
Here it is! 90 days of organization, orchestration and most importantly, dedication.
This is time to practice what I've been preaching. It's going to be a great journey, re-connecting with the emotional side of this program. It's been one thing to run proceedings from the safety of an email account, but now I'm diving back in the deep-end, whilst maintaining all my other responsibilities; this will be the true test, to find my own personal winning formula.
I'm excited, but wary...of all the hard work ahead of me, of having to say "no" and make compromises, yet still excited because I know that very soon that the rhythm of life will shift and that mindful state will prevail. I'm already fit, aerobically, 3 RPM classes a week plus the odd run will do that for you, but I don't feel strong. Without daily attention that core strength diminishes and the glue that keeps the frame intact needs constant application... if I'm to stay injury free, develop my tennis game and hit some PBs this Sprint Triathlon season. There, I said it! The goal is to be strong and fast. We like fast.
Day 1 Weight = 188lbs
My leanest in recent times was 176lbs but I was super skinny then. The aim is to hit a similar body fat percentage, around 6%, but bulk up to a solid 182lbs or so. Too precise? Definitely. This is vanity talking, I'm going to work hard for 90 days and eat smart, that's it.
The FIYL tribe is growing, some reFIYLers have been joined by 4 newbies. We're a team of 8, STRONG!
A real good group to kick-off 2013, I'm really looking forward to it.
